Women's Soccer earns point during opening weekend of play

The Lancer women's soccer team opened up the 2012 season this past weekend, earning a point after their first two games.

Windsor dropped their first game of the season on the road against the new UOIT Ridgebacks 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, UOIT took a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the second frame. Almost 30 minutes later, rookie Jaclyn Faraci scored her first OUA goal to tie the game heading into the final 15 minutes.

After a number of scoring opportunities on both sides, UOIT managed to get one past the Lancer goaltender to secure the team's first ever win.

In the Lancers home opener Monday, the team battled to a 2-2 draw against the visiting Western Mustangs.

The Lancers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Bella Riccardi's first OUA career goal, three minutes into the game, before the Mustangs tied it up heading into the half.

After the Mustangs took a 2-1 lead, Tina Vagnini drew Windsor even with a terrific corner that found its way to the back of the net in the sixtieth minute.

Lancer goalkeeper Tara Bernard-Rae was instrumental in the draw making 8 saves.

The Lancers will travel to Hamilton on September 8 to face the McMaster Marauders at 1:00pm.
