Strong second period leads Lancers over Hawks

Box Score The Lancer men's hockey team exploded in the second period to earn a 6-2 win over the visiting Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday night at Windsor Arena.
 
With the win, Windsor remains in second place in the OUA West division with a 14-6-0 record. The Golden Hawks fall to 8-10-2 on the year and sit in seventh place.
 
Sophomore forward Evan Stibbard led the Lancer attack with two goals, while Spencer Pommells and Drew Palmer each chipped in two assists. Stibbard and Pommells lead the CIS in scoring with 33 points apiece.
 
Windsor native Parker Van Buskirk continued his strong play in net, turning away 33 shots for his second win of the weekend.
 
Laurier took a 1-0 lead after the first period of play before the Lancers scored six unanswered goals.
 
DJ Turner's goal at 3:43 of the second kicked started a flurry of Lancers goals. Christian Steingraber gave Windsor a 2-1 lead at 5:04, before Stibbard scored his first of the game at the eight minute mark for a two goal lead.
 
Following Windsor's third goal, the Golden Hawks pulled starting goaltender Ryan Daniels in favour of backup goaltender Duncan Long.
 
Stibbard scored his second of the game in the final minute of the period to cap off the Lancers four goal stanza.
 
The Lancer offence continued to shine as Kyle Makaric scored his first goal of the season at 11:42, and Steve Ferry added his sixth of year on the power play just two minutes later at 13:38 to cap off the Lancer scoring.
 
 Laurier's Frank Riddle netted his first of the season off of the next face-off to end the Lancer streak and close out the scoring, 6-2.
 
Windsor will hit the road next weekend as they once again take on the Brock Badgers on Friday and Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday.
