Lancer Hockey earns point in shootout loss to Lakehead

Box Score The Lancer men's hockey team lost 3-2 to the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves in a shootout on Friday night at Windsor Arena.

Windsor will look to avenge the loss on Saturday night in game two of the weekend doubleheader. Puck is set to drop at 7:30pm at Windsor Arena.

Earning a point in the shootout loss, Windsor remains one point ahead of the Thunderwolves in the OUA West standings. However, with Guelph's win over Brock, the Gryphons have snuck past the Lancers in the standings, and Windsor currently sits in third place in the division.

The Lancers had a rough start to the game as they took an early penalty, and allowed the Thunderwolves to take a 1-0 lead at 4:16pm with a power play goal by Mike Quesnele.

Windsor bounced back and fought hard through the rest of the first and second, playing an evenly match game with Lakehead

Finally in the third, the Lancers persistence paid off as Matt Beaudoin found the back of the net, tying it up 1-1 at 8:31.

Within four minutes, Lakehead's Matt Caria responded back, taking a 2-1 lead at 12:03.

However the Lancers were quick on the draw and tied it up once again 0:34 seconds later as Brett Oliphant caught Thunderwolves goaltender Alex Dupuis out of position.

For the remaining eight minutes, both team fought hard in intense situations but neither could find the goal ahead

In the overtime period, Windsor was unable to earn the win despite having two power plays and hitting the cross bar twice.

After missing their first shot on net in the shootout, Lakehead scored on their first two attempts to take the win.

Game two of the series will take place Saturday night at 7:30pm at Windsor Arena.
