No. 8 Men's Hockey drops two games to open 2013

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The No. 8 ranked Lancer men's hockey team dropped a pair of game against the UOIT Ridgebacks and the York Lions to open up the 2013 calendar year.

Windsor is now 12-6-0 on the season and sits in third place in the OUA West dvision behind the Western Mustangs and Guelph Gryphons.

On Friday against the Ridgebacks, the Lancers had trouble getting back into the grove after the holiday break, dropping a 7-4 decision to the host team.

Myles McCauley opened the scoring with his third goal of the season early on in the first period to give Windsor a 1-0 lead.

That was the only lead the Lancers would hold in the match, as the Ridgebacks exploded with six unanswered goals that led them into the third period.

Windsor rebounded in the final period scoring three goals of their own from Matt Beaudoin, DJ Turner, and Evan Stibbard but it was not enough.

Goaltender Parker Van Buskirk made 16 saves in the loss, while Matt Murphy had 8.

The next night, the Lancers tried to rebound against the York Lions in Toronto but fell 3-2 at Canlan Ice Sports.

Windsor again took the first lead of the game as Stibbard scored his fourteenth of the year at 12:29 of the first.

Holding a 1-0 leading heading into the second, captain Brett Vandehogen put Windsor up by two early in the frame.

The Lions got on the board just four minutes later with a goal from captain Jesse Messier to bring the score within one. The marker seemed to jump start York as Tyler McGee scored two unanswered goals over the remainder of regulation to earn the win for the hometown Lions.

Windsor will look to get back in the win column next weekend, when they return home and play host to the Brock Badgers (6-9-3) on Friday night and the Laurier Golden Hawks (7-9-2) on Saturday. Both games are at 7:30pm at Windsor Arena.
