Box Score WINDSOR, Ont.- The Windsor Lancers men's hockey team began their 2013-14 campaign in their new home at South Windsor Arena, but it was the Carleton Ravens who came away with a season opening 8-1 victory over the Lancers on Friday evening.
After an even-played first 15 minutes to the contest, the visitors opened the scoring at the 17:07 mark of the opening period to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. The Ravens added a power-play marker early in the second, but the Lancers looked as though they might swing the momentum after answering back with MacAulay MacDonnell's first of the season less than a minute later, cutting the lead in half.
However, that was as close as Windsor would come to Carleton's lead, as they added three more in the period to take a stranglehold on the contest after 40 minutes of play, chasing
Parker Van Buskirk from goal after allowing five goals on 29 shots. Rookie netminder
Taylor Speed came in relief for the final period, allowing three goals on 13 shots.
Windsor was 0-for-3 on the power-play, while Carleton was 3-of-12 with the man advantage. Ryan Dube stopped 17 of 18 shots that came his way for the victory, while Van Buskirk takes the loss for Windsor.
The Lancers will look for a weekend split against the Ravens tomorrow evening back at South Windsor Arena. Puck-drop is set for 7:30 p.m.
