The Lancer men's soccer team earned two 1-1 ties against the visiting Waterloo Warriors on Saturday afternoon and the Brock Badgers on Sunday at Alumni Field.
Prior to Sunday's game the Lancers honoured graduating seniors
Dejo Olagbegi,
Chris Lanni,
John Bahdi and
David Salinitri in a pre-game ceremony.
Heading into their final weekend of play, the Lancers are 6-2-6 on the year and in fourth place in the West Division.
In both contests, the Lancers held a 1-0 lead for a majority of the game before the visitors tied it up late to spoil the Windsor victory.
On Saturday against Waterloo, the Lancers got on the board with a goal from Joe Camaj. In the 42nd minute, a long kick from Lancer rookie keeper
Kyle Vizirakis bounced into the Waterloo box, causing a defensive error forcing Warrior keeper Thomas Modjesch into a save. Camaj was able to put the resulting rebound into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Dominating possession time for a majority of the game, the Lancers looked poised to take the win before Warrior Adam Craig got past the Windsor defense and scored on Lancer goaltender Dejo Olagebgi.
Against Brock, the Lancers got off to a quick start scoring in the 13th minute, when Mayorga finished off a great pass by forward Iyowuna Jumbo.
Salinitri had a great chance to double the lead late in the first half after his initial shot was blocked, but he sent the rebound over the net .
The Badgers had a few chances to get on the board in the first half, but didn't manage to tie the game until the 52nd minute when Omar Hamadi slotted the ball past the Olagbegi.
The Badgers were forced deep into their own half as the Lancers applied pressure and pushed for the goal that would give them all three points.
In the 70th minute a
John Bahdi volley forced the Badger keeper Noah Mar into a fantastic save, while Woods-Henry also had a chance to win the game when a miss-kicked cross almost caught Mar out of his net.
The Blue & Gold finish their regular season on the road next weekend as the take on the UOIT Ridgebacks and York Lions. Stay tuned to
