Women's Soccer comes from behind to defeat Warriors

The Lancer women's soccer team scored three second half goals to erase a two goal deficit and defeat the Waterloo Warriors 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

After falling behind 2-0 at the half, the Blue & Gold came out firing in the second. Cara Cirovski opened the scoring in the second, and Jaclyn Faraci added two to cap off a great display of resilience by the Lancers.

Waterloo's Adrienne Goldsworthy opened the scoring in the 21st minute, when a cross was floated in by Kaitlyn Barnett found a wide open Goldsworthy who headed the ball into the top corner.

The Warriors double their lead just before half time. Warrior Emily Decket was dragged down just outside the box, allowing Goldsworthy to step up and fire the ball past Lancer keeper Tara Bernard-Rae.

Firing on all cylinders to start the second half, Windsor took only four minutes to get on the board and start their comeback. Becca Fuerth set up Cara Cirovski for a great volley finish into the net in the 49th minute to spoil the Warrior shut-out.

The Lancers kept up the pressure throughout the half, but did not get the equalizer until the 80th minute. Waterloo struggled to clear a corner and the ball bounced kindly to Faraci who made no mistake shooting the ball into the back of the net.

In the 88th minute the Warriors defense had more trouble clearing their lines as a long throw in caused a scramble in the box. Once again the ball fell into the path of Faraci who secured the win with a shot right into the back of the net.

The Lancers will close out the home portion of their regular season schedule on Sunday when they host the UOIT Ridgebacks at 1:00pm at Alumni Field.
