UQTR defeats Lancers in penalty filled contest

Box Score The No. 7 Lancer men's hockey team was handed their first loss since the opening game of the 2013-14 season Friday night at South Windsor Arena. The Lancers fell 6-1 to the visiting UQTR Patriotes in a penalty filled contest.

The two teams will battle it out once again tonight in game two of the weekend double-header. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm and can be watched LIVE at www.goLancers.tv.

The first period was evenly matched, and despite numerous Windsor penalties, the score remained tied at zero as Lancer goaltender Parker Van Buskirk was stellar in net holding off two 5-3 opportunities for the Patriotes.

UQTR managed to get on the board at 15:31 of the opening period with a goal from Thomas Martin. Martin would eventually complete a hat-trick over the next two periods.

Windsor's Kenny Bradford scored a nice goal on the power play early in the second period to tie the game. The game would only remain tied for a short time as UQTR pulled ahead just thirty seconds later.

From there the teams spent most of their time in the penalty box as the game racked up 114 minutes in penalties by the final buzzer.

Van Buskirk finished the game with 40 saves for the Blue & Gold.

Game two of the weekend series will continue Saturday night at 7:30pm at South Windsor Arena.
