No. 7 Lancers host Lions, Gaels in home openers

Fifth-year guard Josh Collins tallied 11.5 points per game in Windsor's season-opening weekend last Friday and Saturday.
WINDSOR, Ont.- The Windsor Lancers men's basketball team will look to get in the win column this Friday and Saturday when they welcome the York Lions and Queen's Gaels to the St. Denis Centre for their home opening weekend.

For the second season in a row, the Lancers drew a tough draw to open their conference schedule as they faced off against the CIS No. 1 ranked and defending national champion Carleton Ravens and No. 3 ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees last weekend. After losing 95-74 to a Ravens squad that was out to exact revenge for Windsor's upset win over Carleton in 2012, their only loss of the season, the Lancers ran out of gas against the Gee-Gees in their second contest of the weekend, falling 96-85.

Windsor (0-2) is ranked No. 7 in the country heading into this weekend's matches, and will be looking to earn its first win of the 2013-14 campaign. Through two contests thus far, fifth-year guard Enrico Diloreto (London, Ont.) leads the Lancers in scoring, averaging 25.0 points per game (ppg). He shot an impressive 53.3% against Carleton and Ottawa and was 6-of-11 from beyond the arc. Fellow senior Lien Phillip continues to be a dominant post presence, as the St. Mark's, Grenada native notched 16.0 ppg and 7.5 rebounds per game (rpg) against tough Ravens' and Gee-Gees' defences.

The men will be up against the Lions in their home opener on Friday, a team that posted a 1-1 mark last weekend. York reached triple digits in a 100-94 win over Guelph, and put together a solid performance in a close 79-76 loss to Lakehead, last year's CIS championship finalists. Ryan Ejim tallied 16.5 ppg last weekend to open the season, with Daniel Tulloch adding 14.5 ppg.

The Gaels may represent an even tougher opponent on Saturday, as Queen's is currently unbeaten after notching lopsided wins over both the Thunderwolves and Gryphons last weekend. Fourth-year guard Greg Faulkner averaged 16.5 ppg in the Gaels' two wins, and was complimented by Roshane Roberts who added 13.5 ppg on the weekend.

Windsor will take on the Lions this Friday and are back at the St. Denis Centre court to host Queen's on Saturday. Both games will tip-off at approximately 8:00 p.m. Both a live stream and live stats will be available online at GoLancers.TV.
