Lancers clip Gaels, complete weekend sweep

Evan Matthews recorded seven points and six rebounds to help Windsor top Queen's on Saturday.
Box Score WINDSOR, Ont.- Enrico Diloreto tallied a team-best 19 points, and five Lancers reached double-digits in a 98-74 triumph over the Queen's Gaels on Saturday evening at the St. Denis Centre.

The victory moves the CIS No. 7 ranked Lancers (2-2) back to a .500 conference mark and completes the weekend sweep after the men disposed of York 78-70 on Friday evening. The Gaels suffered their first loss of the season and drop to 3-1 on the year.

Lien Phillip dropped 13 points and recorded 11 rebounds to clinch his second double-double in as many nights, while freshman Mike Rocca tallied 14 points and was 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Josh Collins tallied 12 points and a game-high eight assists in the win.

The Lancers were hot from the opening tip-off, holding the visitors to just five points through the first 10 minutes of play. The men notched 25 of their own in the first, including an alley-oop dunk from Diloreto to Evan Matthews that put a stamp on the opening quarter.

The Gaels found their legs in the second quarter, draining 18 in the period. However, the Lancer offence remained potent throughout the half, allowing the men to take a healthy spread into the locker rooms.

Rocca was perfect from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes, going 3-of-3 and adding a field goal to lead all players with 11 points at the half. The men shot 46.3% in the first two quarters while holding the Gaels to a 21.9% efficiency.

The steady stream of Windsor offence continued in the second half, denying the Gaels an opportunity to take a bite out of the hefty advantage. The Lancers shot 43.5% from the field throughout the contest, compared to 39.7% from the Gaels who were able to shoot more consistently in the second half, going 20-of-36. The Lancers also picked up 22 second-chance points after dominating the glass with 50 rebounds compared to 31 from Queen's.

Windsor will hit the road next weekend, as they head to Ryerson and Toronto on Friday and Saturday respectively. The Lancers return to the St. Denis Centre on November 22 and 23 to host Algoma and Laurentian.
