Box Score The Lancer men's hockey team earned a 2-1 win over the Guelph Gryphons in game one of the OUA West semi-finals on Thursday night at Windsor Arena.
With the win, the Lancers hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Game two is scheduled for Saturday night at 7:30pm in Guelph.
Windsor opened up the scoring at 7:26 of the first period with a power play goal from defenseman
Steve Ferry.
Holding a one goal lead heading into the second period, Windsor's
Parker Van Buskirk made some key saves very earlyon in the middle stanza to maintain the Lancers one goal lead. Guelph's Jordan Mock managed to get one past Van Buskirk at 2:35, when the Lancers went to the box and the visiting team had the man advantage.
On the other end of the ice, Gryphone goaltender Andrew Loverock made a number of big saves to keep the Lancers off the scoreboard.
Sophomore Soencer Pommells broke the barrier for his second goal of the post season at 8:59, being set up by
Evan Stibbard and Ferry while on the power play.
That would wrap up the scoring for the game as both defenses held strong and kept the shots to a minimum in the third period.
Overall, Van Buskirk made 29 saves to earn the win, while Loverock had 20 for the Gryphons.
The Lancers will look to win the series this weekend travel to Guelph on Saturday for game two.
