Box Score An injury time header brought the Lancer men's soccer season to an end as the Blue & Gold fell to the Western Mustangs 1-0 in the first round of the playoffs on Wednesday night at Mustangs Field.
Â
Despite the dramatic ending, the majority of the game had not followed suit. From the opening whistle, both the Lancers and Mustangs appeared to be having trouble gaining momentum. With only three shots in the first half, all of which came from the Mustangs, the match would go into halftime with the scoreboard sitting at 0-0 and both teams appearing frustrated.
Â
With a place in the OUA Quarterfinals on the line, both teams would return to the second half determined to quicken the pace and gain themselves the advantage. As the half played out, Western would increase their offensive attack, however despite multiple opportunities on net, Lancer goaltender
Alex Borsos was a wall in net keeping the score deadlocked at zero.
Â
With the clock slowly running out, it looked as though the game would be heading into overtime.
Â
With four minutes of injury time added and a corner kick for Western, the Mustangs were awarded a corner kick. Alex Lewis connected with the ball and fired header into the back of the Lancer net.
Â
With injury time almost out, Windsor applied tremendous pressure to the Mustang defense but were unable to find the back of the net.
Â
Congratulations to the Lancer men' soccer team on a season that made everyone in the Lancer Family proud.Â
