Lancers lose playoff heart breaker in penalty kicks

Box Score The Lancer women's soccer season came to a heartbreaking end on Wednesday night when they fell 2-1 in penalty kicks to the Guelph Gryphons in the first round of the OUA playoffs.

After a scoreless first half, Giulia Barile got the Lancers on the board in the second half to give Windsor a 1-0 lead .

However, with just a minute and a half to go in the regulation, Guelph's Brianne Hall squeaked the ball past Lancer goaltender Krystin Lawrence to send the game into penalty kicks.

With each team receiving five kicks, both goaltenders stood tall and kept the score deadlocked again after the first round. From there, it was one for one. Guelph was up first and Danielle Canholto just snuck the ball past Lawrence on her right side. The Lancers were un-successful at their attempt, and the Gryphons advanced to the OUA quarter-finals.

Congratulations to the Lancer women's soccer team on a fantastic season that was hard fought right until the end.
