Box Score The Lancer women's soccer team earned their third shut-out win of the regular season with a 1-0 victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Wednesday night in Waterloo.
The Warriors and Lancers battled on a very chilly evening in what was a tight, defensive matchup for both squads. Waterloo's Tara Butterworth got the first scoring opportunity of the game in the 7th minute on a low, hard shot but it was turned away by Windsor goalkeeper
Krystin Lawrence.
Giulia Barile would open the scoring for Windsor in the 14th minute when she made a fabulous strike from the 22-yard line that sailed over top of Warrior keeper Lesia Bandura to break the deadlock. Shortly after, the Windsor offence would nearly get their second of the game but the shot would glance off a Waterloo defender to go for a corner kick which did not result in an opportunity.
Waterloo's best scoring opportunity came in the first half as Melanie Mitchell rose up for a head-ball off a corner kick but Lawrence was equal to the take.
Lawrence made five solid saves throughout the rough match to earn the Lancers the win.
Windsor returns home for their final regular season games of the year this weekend. The Lancers play host to the Brock Badgers on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm, and the McMaster Marauders on Sunday at the same time. Prior to Sunday's kick-off the Lancers will honour their graduating seniors in a pre-game ceremony.
