Enrico Diloreto and
Josh Collins marked their place in the Lancer record books on Saturday afternoon, as Windsor's men's basketball team earned their sixth-straight win with a 76-62 triumph over the host Guelph Gryphons.
Diloreto became the new all-time Lancer men's basketball career points leader, moving past Trevor Boose (1,408) with a 17-point performance against the Gryphons that gives the London, Ont. native 1,423 for his career. He is currently ranked 14th in the CIS with an average of 18.2 points per game and eighth with 113 field-goals made.
Fellow guard Collins tallied five assists on the night, making him the program's new career assists leader with 525, a title previous held by Ryan Steer (521). The Toronto product is sixth in the CIS with 81 total assists and fifth in the nation with 37 steals.
While the two veterans had historic afternoons, it was big-man
Evan Matthews who grabbed the spotlight. The 6'9'' Tecumseh, Ont. native recorded a game-high 22 points, shooting 10-of-15 from the field in 21 minutes of court-time coming off the bench. Collins added 16 points and
Lien Phillip netted seven while bringing down a game-high 10 rebounds.
As a team the men shot 46.7% from the floor while Guelph was 31.2% on the afternoon. The hosts were led by Adam Kemp who picked up 14 points off the bench. The Lancers outrebounded Guelph 36-32 and doubled up the Gryphons on points off turnovers (34-17).
The victory means Windsor clinches a first-round bye in the OUA West division playoffs for the second-straight season, as the Lancers will continue to battle for first-place with the McMaster Marauders over the last two weeks of the conference schedule.
The men will look to clinch a seventh-straight victory on Wednesday night when they host Western at the St. Denis Centre. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. and the game will be available live at
