Lancer Men's Soccer loses pair at home

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Windsor Lancer men's soccer team dropped a pair of games against the Guelph Gryphons and York Lions in their first weekend at home.

Windsor is now 2-3-0 on the season and will head up the 401 to face the Western Mustangs in London on Friday.

In their 3-2 loss against Guelph on Saturday, Iyowuna Jumbo led the way for Windsor with both goals for the Blue & Gold.

The Lancers struck first on the day scoring a goal from Iyowuna Jumbo at 3:10. The first half remained even from there until Guelph's Jared Agyemang scored in the 38th minute to even the game heading into the half.

Guelph opened the second half with an early goal as Agyemang headed the ball towards the Lancer net but the ball ricocheted off the cross bar and straight to his teammate Ethan Danielli who kicked it past the Lancer goaltender Sam Atkin. With just over 10 minutes remaining, the Lancers earned a penalty kick but Gryphon goaltender Benjamin Caranci made a diving save.

The teams traded goals with one by Owen Botelho that gave the Gryphons a two goal lead at 74 minutes. Windsor got within one with Jumbo's second of the game at 81 minutes. The Lancers narrowly missed the tying goal minutes later but it went wild.

On Sunday, the York Lions came out with a vengeance scoring two goals in the first five minutes of play, en route to a 3-0 victory over Windsor.

Windsor's best scoring chance came in the 81st minute when Jack Sargent's free kick ricocheted after the cross bar.

The Lancers will look to get back in the win column on Friday night when they travel to London to take on the Western Mustangs.
