Lancer Soccer sweeps weekend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lancer men's soccer team earned a pair of wins over the weekend as they defeated the Western Mustangs 4-1 Friday night in London, and the Waterloo Warriors 4-0 at home on Sunday.

Windsor is now 4-3-0 at the halfway point of the season.

In Friday's match, the Mustangs opened up the scoring with Jovan Ivanovich firing the ball between the posts 19 minutes into the match.

However Windsor then turned the tables, as Chris Lanni, Marco Bernabo, and Jumbo Iyowuna all netted goals to make the score 3-1 Windsor at half.

In the second half, the Mustangs appeared to have trouble in the middle and on the attack and the Lancers took advantage and added another point to their side of the scoreboard, with Chris Al-Youssef finding the net to give the Lancers a 4-1 victory.

Back on home field Sunday, Windsor dominated the field from the opening whistle. Windsor got on the board off a free kick from Jack Sargent in the 23rd minute.

The Warriors had an opportunity to tie the game as Windsor played a man down for a few minutes. Waterloo's offence took advantage of the extra man and Yusuf Khaled fired the ball directly at the Lancer net. Lancer goaltender Sam Atkin showed his skills, making an excellent save and preserving the shut-out.

Mike Pio added Windsor's second goal a few minutes before the break to give Windsor a two goal leading heading into the second half.

In the second half, John Bahdi headed the ball off a corner kick into the back of a net to give Windsor their third goal of the game. With only a minute and a half remaining, Sargent took a free kick from the 25-yard line that ricocheted off the cross bar and found the back of the net to close out the scoring.

Windsor will hit the road next weekend for a pair of road games against the Algoma Thunderbirds in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. The Lancers will return home on Wednesday October 1st when they host the Western Mustangs at 8:15pm at Alumni Field.
