Women's Soccer splits weekend matches

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lancer women's soccer team split a pair of difficult games over the weekend. Windsor dropped a tight 1-0 decision to the Western Mustangs on Friday night in London, before rebounding on Sunday when they defeated the Waterloo Warriors 2-1 at home.

At the halfway point of the season, the Lancers are 4-3-0 on the year and are currently in fourth place in the OUA west division standings.

The first half of Friday's game saw the match getting off to a slower start, with both teams battling in the middle third of the field trying to gain possession and make an offensive push. The defense for both teams were solid limiting their opponents to only two shots to leave the scoreboard reading 0-0 at the half-time whistle.

The battle between the two sides continued in the second, with possession going back and forth between the sides in what was a physical match. In the middle of the half, Western would appear to get an opportunity as Windsor's Giulia Barlie was issued a red card; leaving the Lancers a player short. The Mustangs continued to pressure the Lancers' defence and fired a shot past Krystin Lawrence to put the Mustangs up 1-0.

Back on home field Sunday, the Lancers looked to rebound against the Warriors.

After a scoreless first half, Waterloo's Marina Drygala put the visitors up by a goal just three minutes into the frame.

Windsor retaliates with a goal of their own as Polina Onyalo headed the ball to Becca Feurth who then headed it past the Warrior goaltender.

A mistake by the Waterloo defence in the 78th minute gave Jaclyn Faraci the ball with plenty of time and room just inside the 6 yard box. She capitalized on the chance and found the left corner for a goal to give the Lancers the win.

The Blue & Gold will travel to Sault Ste. Marie, ON for a pair of games this coming weekend before returning home on October 1st when they host the Western Mustangs at 6:00pm at Alumni Field.
