The Lancer women's basketball team suffered a tough weekend, dropping both road contests in the GTA. The Blue & Gold fell 78-47 to Ryerson on Friday before being narrowly edged by Toronto on Saturday 67-62.
Â
Heading into their final week of competition before the holiday break, the Lancers are 4-5 on the season and sit tied for third place in the OUA west division standings.
Â
FRIDAY @ RYERSON
The Rams defense was stifling in the first half, holding the Lancers to just 40 percent in field goal range and 22 percent from the arch to build a 47-34 lead heading into the half.
Â
Ryerson quickly built their lead in the second half and held Windsor to just 16 percent from the field in the final twenty minutes.
Â
Jama Bin-Edward led all scorers with 23 points, while the Lancers were led by
Olivia Osamusali who scored nine. The Lancers were heavily outdone on the glass, losing the rebound margin 54-34. The Rams had a fantastic day on defense, racking up 15 steals to the Lancers' five.
Â
SATURDAY @ TORONTO
The Lancers got things going in the first half with some solid defensive play. With their offense not firing on all cylinders the Lancers had to rely on stout defense and it worked for the most part as the Varsity Blues had trouble scoring early.
Olivia Osamusali made her presence felt in the post, scoring 10 first half points. The Lancers went into the half up 36-33 without a single Blue in double digit scoring.
Â
In the second half it was the Toronto defense that stole the show. The Lancers simply couldn't find any consistent success on the offensive end in the second half, shooting just 18 per cent from the floor. On the other end, the Lancers defense was playing well but couldn't contain Keyira Parkes who exploded for 21 second half points, guiding her Varsity Blues to victory.
Â
Keyira Parkes led all scorers with 26 points, while
Carly Steer led the Blue & Gold with 15. Osamusali registered a double-double with 14 points, 15 rebounds.
