Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lancers top No. 3 Marauders

Using a balancedĀ attack,Ā the Lancer women's basketball team defeated the No. 3 McMaster Marauders 71-64 on Wednesday night at the St. Denis Centre.Ā Ā
Ā
After dropping an early game to the Marauders in HamiltonĀ back in October, the LancersĀ looked to return the favour. Things started slow but the blue and gold fought tooth and nail on their way to an impressive win.Ā
Ā
The win moves the Lancers to 11-6 on the year, while the Marauders lost just their third game of the season and fall to 14-3.Ā Ā
Ā
GAME STATSĀ
The Lancers were led by OliviaĀ OsamusaliĀ and her 17 points, while McMaster'sĀ HilaryĀ HanakaĀ led all scorers with 20 points on the night.Ā Ā
Ā
The Lancers dominated the glass withĀ OsamusaliĀ recording a double-double with her 11 boards. Linnaea Harper and her eight reboundsĀ led the visitors defensively.Ā
Ā
GAME FLOWĀ
The Lancers came out of the gates sluggish on offense but competitiveĀ with their defensive game plan.Ā TheirĀ tenacious defense kept theĀ blue and goldĀ close until their offense got going, which it did, finishing the half on a 10-0 run to lead after one quarter, 21-15.Ā Ā
Ā
The Lancers kept their foot on theĀ gasĀ pedal to start the second.Ā The Marauders, to their credit kept the game from getting too far out of hand and HilaryĀ HanakaĀ came up big down the stretch as they cut into the Lancers' once large lead; shrinkingĀ itĀ to just 36-30 at halftime.Ā Ā
Ā
The Marauders came out the half a different team, stifling the Lancers in the half court and scoring on the offensive end. The renewedĀ McMaster energyĀ helped them retake the lead midway through the third quarter. The Lancers didn't allow the lead to grow and fought their way to keep the game tied after three quarters, 50-50.Ā Ā
Ā
In the fourthĀ WindsorĀ clawed their way back out in front,Ā led by Tyra Blizzard and her 5/10 shooting from range. The Lancers outscored their opponent 21-14 over the final 10 minutes to take the game 71-64.Ā Ā
