In their fourth straight home game, the Lancer women's basketball team defeated the Guelph Gryphons 85-70 on Bell Let's Talk Day.
 
The win, Windsor's fifth straight, helps the Lancers bid to lockdown third place in the west division and keep the pressure on Lakehead who currently sit just four points ahead of them in the standings.
 
GAME STATS
Kayah Clarke was the game's leading scorer, dropping 18 points. The Gryphons were led by Burke Bechard who scored 16.
 
Bechard led the game in rebounds as well, dropping a double-double with 15 rebounds. The Lancers were led on the boards by Eve Uwayesu with eight rebounds.
 
The Lancers had a great night sharing the ball, doubling the Gryphon's assist total, 24-12.
 
GAME FLOW
Both teams came out of the gates slow as both squads struggled to hit their shots. Windsor went to the bench and it paid off having size on the inside with Olivia Osamusali and Samantha Gucciardi seeing minutes together as the blue and gold took the lead halfway through the second quarter, going on a 7-0 run en route a 40-32 halftime lead.
 
In the second half the Lancer offense continued moving at a healthy clip building their lead and opening up a double digit margin on the Gryphons halfway through the third. Gucciardi continued scoring for the Lancers, extending her hot streak, playing some of her best minutes on route to a 69-55 lead after three quarters. The Lancers kept their foot on the gas in the fourth quarter as the Gryphons attempted a comeback but never quite getting there as the Lancers picked up the win, 85-70.
