Women's Hockey makes donation to local women's shelter

Last week, the Lancer women's hockey team kicked off the holiday season with a donation to the women's shelter in Windsor.

Through the University of Windsor's Kerr House, the athletes donated bags filled with non-perishables, personal hygiene products, and warm clothing such as hats and mitts.

"We wanted to do something to give back to the community and heard about the drive from our coach (Deanna Iwanicka) who mentioned it at practice," said fourth year goaltender Molly Jenkins.

Together as a team, the girls pooled the items and put them together into thirteen bags.

"The faculty members of Kerr house who were organizing in the drive were so happy to see us," said Jenkins. "According to one member, we restored their faith in humanity."

"We didn't realize the impact our donation would have," Jenkins continued. "It makes us feel good to give back to the community, and I can definitely see us doing more things like this in the future, not just around Christmas time."
