Hamlin announces 2019-20 coaching staff

Windsor Lancer men's hockey head coach Kevin Hamlin is thrilled to announce his coaching staff for the 2019-20 season.

Joining Coach Hamlin on the bench are former NHLer and Sportsnet broadcaster Todd Warriner, former Lancer forward Mike Christou, and Michigan native Frank Furdero.

Warriner was selected fourth overall in 1992 by the Quebec Nordiques, and enjoyed a fifteen year professional career. He played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning, Phoenix Coyotes, Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers and Nashville Predators of the NHL, while also spending time in the AHL and finishing his amazing playing career in Europe.

Warriner is also notable for having scored the first goal in the history of the then newly opened Air Canada Centre on February 20, 1999 as a member of the home Toronto Maple Leafs. Internationally, he spent 54 games with the Canadian national team and competed in the Lillehammer Olympics. He was also a member of the Canadian team that won the 2005 Deutschland Cup.

"We are very happy to add Todd to our coaching staff. We have a relationship that transcends the game and I am looking forward to working with him and our Lancer program," said Hamlin. "Todd bring an incredible amount of knowledge as a former player and I am confident that our players will benefit from not only that but his interpersonal skills."

Christou brings with him a wealth of experience at the collegiate level, having played for the Lancers for four season, was a key player for the blue and gold in their 2014 Queen's Cup victory and represented the squad at two national championships.

"Mike was a team first player and his positive demeanour will make a huge impact on our team this year," said Hamlin. "As a PK expert and specialist, he will work in that capacity with our team."

Furdero played five years of professional hockey in the Southern Professional Hockey League and is currently the skills expert with the Little Caesars AAA hockey club. He will apply his expertise with the blue and gold during skills sessions throughout the season.

The 2019-20 Lancer men's hockey schedule is set to be released this week. Stay tuned to goLancers.ca for more information.
