On March 5-7, 2021 the Windsor Lancer soccer program will take on the David Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge with all donation proceeds going to the University of Windsor Human Kinetics Voices of Excellence BIPOC Scholarship.
Â
The Lancers will run four miles, every four hours, for 48 hours. They have broken themselves into groups, and each group will complete the 48 total miles.
Â
However, head coaches
Ryan Mendonca,
Daniel Mendonca, and assistant coach James Lanbourne will each complete the 48 miles individually.
Â
"This is an immense challenge, one we are excited to conquer as a team and program. With our recent education initiatives surrounding anti-racism, we saw an opportunity to take lessons learned and turn them into action," said
Ryan Mendonca. "With fund-raising for a BIPOC Scholarship such as Voices of Excellence, we believe that we can make a difference at our school and in society, for today and for the future. With the risk of surrounding cliche, it all starts with the first step, speaking up, standing up and taking action. This is our first step, our first action, this is who we are as Lancer soccer."
Â
The Blue & Gold have currently raised over $10,000 in pledges for the scholarship and are looking for additional donors and corporate pledge partners. Those looking to partner with the team in this challenge are asked to contact
Ryan Mendonca at
ryan.mendonca@uwindsor.ca.
