The Lancer women's basketball team is excited to announce the commitment of 5'7 combo guard Reine Ndome from Montreal, QC.
Ndome began playing basketball at age 9 and has seen success at all levels of the game. She suited up for five years at Ecole Saint-Laurent in Montreal, QC. During that time she grew from an eager player to an impressive athlete who made her presence known on both ends of the court. As an underclassman in 2015-16, she was named Most Improved Player in addition to being named to the RSEQ all-star team.
Following her graduation from E.S. Saint-Laurent in 2018, Ndome signed on to play and study at CEGEP Montmorency in Laval, QC, where she made an immediate impact for the Nomades. In her first season in 2018-19, she was named she was named the
'Heart of the Team' at the CEGEP Montomorency Gala, an award that accurately describes the impact that Ndome has on her teammates, both on and off the court.
Â
She followed this up by producing a monster season in 2019-20, boasting averages of 14.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and an impressive 2.6 steals per contest. She won Most Valuable Player honours for her tremendous play which subsequently put the league on notice, earning her a place on the RSEQ second team all-star in 2019-20.
Ndome's success is not limited to the court, however, as she takes pride in her academic achievement as well. She has been twice honoured by the RSEQ for her academic excellence, maintains a high academic average, and will be bringing that focus and attention to her time at the University of Windsor where she will be studying criminology.
"One quote that I stand by everyday is "Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher" by Oprah Winfrey," said Ndome. She cites the importance of diversity and representation and working with inspirational women and empowering those around her as her motivations for coming to the University of Windsor.
Â
"I chose the university of Windsor because of their diversity. It's important for me to be at a place where I fit in. There is also, a great representation of women empowerment that the women's basketball program takes time to show and recognize. Not to mention that UWindsor used to be a powerhouse and I want to be part of the players who are going to rebuild it!"
"I was so thrilled for our team when we received Reine's commitment," commented Lancer head coach Chantal Vallée. "There is a reason why she won awards honoring her heart and passion, and the team will benefit greatly from a personality like hers. This will quickly show both on and off the floor. Our community will get to know an all-star player, who is a warrior on the court. She scores and wins games for her team and her defense-focused mindset is going to intimidate many across the league. Her talent and maturity will enhance our team immediately at the guard position and in overall leadership."
