Hinz & Wale join men's hockey squad for 2021-22 season

Kevin Hamlin, head coach of the University of Windsor Lancers men's hockey team is pleased to announce another set of standout additions to his 2021-22 squad.

Brady Hinz of the Niagara Ice Dogs and Holden Wale of the Kitchener Rangers will join the blue and gold this fall.

Hinz was traded to Niagara last September, but did not suit up for the Ice Dogs due to the ongoing pandemic. Prior to his time with the Ice Dogs, Hinz spent three years with the Peterborough Petes and will reunite with Petes teammates John Parker-Jones and Matt McNamara, who committed to the Lancers earlier this year.

A 5'8" forward, Hinz spent five year in the OHL sharing his time between the Petes and Sarnia Sting, accumulating 129 points (54 goals, 75 assists) in 248 games played.

"Brady is a tremendously gifted athlete with a compete level that is off the charts," said Hamlin. "He never shies away from the dirty areas of the ice and will create offense in tight spaces. Brady will make an immediate contribution. And in addition to being the third Peterborough Pete to join our team this year, he has also played previously on a line with current Lancer Anthony Salinitri and they had tremendous chemistry in Sarnia."

Hinz will initially study Liberal Arts and Professional Studies with the hopes of transferring into Sports Management after his first year. "I chose Windsor because they're well known for their academics as well as their athletics. Coach Hamlin was one of the first teams that reached out to me and from there on I feel like it just kind of all clicked together."

On the ice, he is eager to contribute and reunite with his precious teammates. "I'm going to do whatever I can to contribute to the team. Whether it's in my own end or down in the offensive zone. I'm just going to try and be confident in my abilities and be a great teammate," Hinz said. "Playing with my old teammate Anthony Salinitri, and last years teammates Matt McNamara and John Parker Jones is something I'm really looking forward to and just getting down to Windsor and starting my journey as a Lancer."

A 6'0' defenseman, Wale comes to the Lancers after a four year stint in the OHL. He played his first three years in the league with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds before splitting his last year between the Greyhounds and Rangers. In that time, he registered eight goals and 30 assists in 162 games played.

He played a key role in helping the Greyhounds reach the OHL championship during the 2017-18 season and had a career high season in 2019-20 with 19 points.

"Holden is an experienced OHL defenseman who can play against the other team's elite players. He has an excellent stick when defending and controls his gap as well as any prospect we've seen," commented Hamlin. "He is a defenseman that we will use in all game situations and is a great addition to a strong Lancer D core. In addition, Holden has extensive OHL playoff experience and will be a tremendous asset to our Lancer family."

"To be able to continue my hockey career and earn an education at such a highly established university is an opportunity I am thoroughly excited for. The University of Windsor offers an endless amount of high end academic programs, as well as an elite level hockey program," said Wale, who will study in Environmental Science. "Along with this, players and coaching staff have been very welcoming, allowing for me to have an easy start to my transition. I strongly believe that UWindsor is the best place for me to continue to work at, and help me achieve my goals in life."
