2023 Women's Soccer Playoff Preview

By Celina Seguin

For the second consecutive year, the Windsor Lancers women's soccer team has clinched their spot in the post season. Their outstanding regular season performance, accumulating 18 points with a 5-4-3 record, has positioned them tied for 4th place in the OUA West division alongside the Laurier Golden Hawks.

Reflecting on the regular season, head coach Daniel Mendonca stated that his greatest memory has been the way that team has overcome adversity, by injury or opponents, through perseverance to reach the goals from the beginning of the season.

What truly sets the Lancers apart, according to Mendonca, is their resilience. "Each and every time the team's character has been called into question through a tough loss or goal against, the entire group has bounced back. I am not surprised of the team's character, but I love when it shows up each and every time."

Looking ahead to the playoffs, the Lancers are gearing up to make a significant impact. Mendonca confidently outlined out the team's objectives: "Our goal is to win our opening game and put our opponent under immense pressure in round two. We have beaten the best in the OUA West this year, and we fully believe we can and will do it again."

When asked about key players fans can watch out for on the pitch, Mendonca pointed to dominating striker Kailyn Roberston as one to be at the top of the list. He also highlighted the senior midfield duo of Natalie Hogeterp and Elizabeth Elliott, underscoring their essential role in the team's core strength.

"The team has continued to build on their successes year after year. The women are excited to take the OUA by storm this playoff," Mendonca affirmed with confidence.

You don't want to miss any of the action! The playoffs will see the blue and gold take on their regular season standings rival, the Laurier Golden Hawks, at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo on Wednesday, October 25 at 6:00 p.m. For those unable to attend in person stay tuned to @WindsorLancers on X (formerly Twitter) for updates throughout the game.
