Department of Athletics announces major award nominees

The Department of Athletics and Recreational Services is pleased to announce their major award nominees for the 2022-23 Windsor Lancers Evening of Excellence.
 
The winners will be announced at the Lancers' annual awards banquet which will take place on Tuesday April 4, 2023 at the St. Clair Centre of the Arts.
 
The nominees for University of Windsor female rookie of the year are Harley Martin from track & field, Aliah Admans from women's volleyball, Kali Grootenboer from women's basketball, and Keana McKibbin from women's hockey.
 
On the men's side, rookie of the year nominees include Joey Zorn from Lancer football, Grant Spence from men's hockey, Devin Hernandez from men's soccer, and Yohann Sam from men's basketball.
 
The super sophomore awards are presented to the outstanding female and male athletes in their second year of eligibility. The female nominees are Reine Ndome from women's basketball, Jaden Cherry from women's hockey, Kat Campana from women's soccer, and Emma Shepherd from women's volleyball.
 
The male super sophomore nominees are Shea O'Neil from baseball, Caleb Keeling from track & field, Gustavo Siqueira from men's volleyball, Nathan Torchia from men's hockey.  
 
The Captain's Trophy is presented to the male and female captains who demonstrate outstanding leadership both on and off the field while also making a significant contribution to the overall success of the team. Female nominees include Meg Mooney from cross country, Lauren Gellner from women's soccer, and Ema Kralik from track & field. Male nominees include Mason Kohn from men's hockey, Anthony Atkinson from track & field, and Steven Abrams from men's volleyball.
 
The Gino Fracas Coach of the Year category has four outstanding nominees this year. They include Kevin Hamlin from men's hockey, James Gravelle from men's volleyball, Deanna Iwanicka from women's hockey, and Chris Cheng from men's basketball.
 
The prestigious DeMarco Awards are presented yearly to the top female and male student-athletes who best combine academics and athletics. The female nominees include Hannah Prieur from Lancer golf, Kristen Swiatoschik from women's hockey, and Megan Lozinski from Lancer softball. The male nominees for the DeMarco Award include Najee Brown-Henderson from men's basketball, Maceo Christmas from Lancer football, and Cameron Cira from cross country.
 
The Banner Shield is presented annually to the University of Windsor's outstanding female athlete of the year. This year's three nominees for the Banner Shield include Mandy Brunet from track & field, Kristen Swiatoschik from women's hockey, and Lauren Gellner from women's soccer.
 
The Olympic Shield is presented annually to the University of Windsor's outstanding male athlete of the year. The nominees for the Olympic Shield as University of Windsor male athlete of the year are Anthony Atkinson from track & field, Thomas Kennedy from men's basketball, Nathan Torchia from men's hockey, and Zach Albert from men's volleyball.
 
The award winners will be announced this Tuesday, April 4th at the Evening of Excellence as part of the Windsor Lancers 2022-23 Evening of Excellence.
