Lancer baseball announces 2024-25 team captains

WINDSOR, ON – Head coach Frank Jeney and the University of Windsor Lancer baseball program have announced the five team co-captains for the 2024-25 OUA season. Joining the leadership team will be 4th year catcher Will Cockram (Windsor ON), 4th year pitcher Isaac Harris (Windsor ON), and 4th year centerfielder Justin Kelly-Boxe (Brampton ON).  Returning as a captain will be 4th year first baseman Nick Zinyk (Tecumseh ON) and 5th year pitcher Colin Jeun (Windsor ON).

"The fall of 2024 will be our ninth season competing in the OUA tournament, and third straight fall season competing in the OUA coaches league," explains Jeney. "We lost a lot of talent in our 2023 graduating class, so the 2024 season has a lot of unknowns for Lancer baseball. There will be a lot of opportunities for our student-athletes to take over starting roles."

Each year, the Lancer baseball captains are chosen through a two step process.  First, a vote by their peers. Secondly, by an interview with the coaching staff.  "Will Cockram is a natural in-game leader," explains first base coach/catching coach, Chris Rinaldi Ross. "I am excited to see what Will does with a formal leadership role on this club."

"Isaac Harris has become one of our most dominant pitchers over the past two seasons," explains Cole Hillier, co-pitching coach. "Isaac has also become a well-respected leader out on our bullpen, which is why we noted so many votes from his peers."

The Lancers finished the 2023 OUA season with a 13-10 record, losing in the finals of the OUA Far West Regional tournament in the 11th inning to the Waterloo Warriors. The Lancers have added 10 new student-athletes this off season thus far.  "I am excited to see what Justin Kelly-Boxe does as a captain," says Jeremy Orton co-pitching coach/outfield coach. "In 2023, Justin really began to standout as an off-field leader due to his work with the Lancer Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (LSAC). "Now, we will get to see him take those leadership attributes to the field."

The Lancers start the 2024 season on Thursday August 29th at 6:00pm at home at the Libro Field in Amherstburg ON, taking on non-conference rival Sheridan College.
