The Windsor Lancers men's golf team earned a Top 3 finish in this weekend's Waterloo Men's Invitational at Rebel Creek & Grey Silo Golf Club in Waterloo, Ont.
An impressive individual performance by
Jarrod Smith propelled the Lancers to a third-place overall finish, as the seventh-year golfer's score of 139 across two days, with 70 on Saturday and 69 on Sunday, placed him first among all participants.
The Lancers collectively shot 297 on Saturday and 279 on Sunday for a total score of 576, making them the second best OUA team, finishing behind Waterloo (571) and the University of Fraser Valley (573). Windsor finished seven strokes ahead of fourth-place Guelph.
Smith's winning weekend included four birdies on Sunday. His 139 score was four strokes under par for the tournament. Additionally,
Alek Mauro (143) finished tied for ninth, followed by
Tyler Hurtubise (145),
Michael Berlingieri (149), and
Nicholas Tanovich (156).
The Lancers continue play tomorrow with a stop in Guelph, Ont., where they will play at the Guelph Gryphon Invitational at Cutten Fields.
