Playoff Preview: OUA Men's Volleyball Quarterfinal

The University of Windsor Lancers men's volleyball team begins their 2026 OUA Forsyth Cup playoff run against the Waterloo Warriors in the OUA Quarterfinals on Friday, February 20 with first serve set for 7 p.m. at the Toldo Lancer Centre. The Lancers enter the game as the No. 3 nationally ranked team and first-place team in the OUA after finishing with an 18-2 (W-L) record, while they face the eighth-seeded 8-12 Warriors.

The Lancers punched their postseason ticket after a strong regular season where they finished with the top records in the conference, including a two-game sweep of the Brock Badgers to close the season and clinch first place in the OUA standings. Windsor's campaign was built on efficient hitting, disciplined serving and stout net defence. The blue and gold have consistently posted strong team hitting percentages while keeping errors low, making them a formidable squad as they enter playoff action. Windsor will be looking to build on recent postseason success and make a deep run at the Forsyth Cup after hosting the final in 2025. The Lancers look to continue building momentum towards the upcoming 2026 U SPORTS Men's Volleyball Championship which will follow the OUA playoffs on March 13-15 at the Toldo Lancer Centre.

Previous Encounters & Recent Performance
The Lancers have shown they can control a match against Waterloo this season. On January 16-17, Windsor swept a series with the Warriors at home, winning both matches in straight sets. On the Friday (Jan. 16), Windsor hit .418 as a team, paced by balanced offensive output from Anthony Ivanovski, Darian Koskie and others while setting a tone with strong serve pressure and timely blocking. On Saturday (Jan. 17), Windsor again controlled play in a win behind 18 points from Gustavo Siqueira and steady all-around contributions. Those earlier meetings saw Windsor's balanced attack and efficient net play consistently keep Waterloo at bay.

Lancer Notes to Know:

  • Balanced offensive attack: Windsor spreads its scoring across multiple hitters. Ivanovski, Koskie, and Siqueira, among others, have all delivered key performances this season, making defensive game-planning difficult for opponents.
  • Service and defence: The Lancers have leveraged disciplined serving and a strong block-defence presence to generate pressure and limit opponents' rhythm throughout the season.
  • Home court importance: Playing at the Toldo Lancer Centre in front of a raucous Windsor crowd will certainly provide a boost in the playoffs, where momentum swings can be decisive.

Waterloo Warriors Snapshot
The Warriors enter the OUA playoffs as a lower seed but come ready to challenge. While Windsor won their head-to-head series, Waterloo has had stretches in the season where they tested top teams and can generate offensive spurts — particularly if they disrupt Windsor's serve-receive and get out in transition.

Head-to-Head History
Windsor's strong wins over Waterloo this season have given the Lancers confidence, with straight-set victories in both January matchups. Their efficiency at the net and discipline in tight sets was a key factor in those results, and history suggests Windsor will look to replicate that style of play in their upcoming playoff contest.

With momentum on the line and both teams familiar with each other's tendencies, this quarterfiinal matchup promises intensity and drama. The Lancers will be looking to use their balanced scoring, strong serving and home-court energy to take control early and make a deep run in the OUA playoffs.
