OUA Playoff Preview: Men's Hockey Quarterfinal

The University of Windsor Lancers men's hockey team begin their 2026 OUA Queen's Cup playoff run on Wednesday (Feb. 25) night at 7:30 p.m. in the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex for the first game in a best-of-three series against the Guelph Gryphons.

The Lancers won the OUA West division title with a 18-7-3 (W-L-OT) record and earned a bye through the first round of the playoffs. This season was highlighted by a five-game winning streak from Jan. 28-Feb. 7 to gain ground in the standings late in the season and winning two of three games against divisional foe Lakehead in the final two weeks of the regular season to earn the top divisional spot.

Windsor was one of two teams to score more than 100 goals this season, leading the OUA with 105 total. Keegan McMullen and Colton Smith scored 21 goals each to share the OUA goal scoring lead, five ahead of second place. The Lancers 67 goals against were the fourth-fewest in the league, led by an impressive .920 save percentage and 2.22 goals against average from Max Donoso, who played in every game this season.

Fifth-seed Guelph enters this series with a 15-9-4 record. The Gryphons eliminated the Laurier Golden Hawks in three games in the first round, winning 4-0 in the decisive win-or-go-home game on Sunday. Jack Wismer had four assists in three games and Nolan Dann and Justin Barker scored two goals each. Goaltender Olivier Cialro put up a 1.68 goals against average and .938 save percentage after playing all three games in the series.

Home ice advantage will be a key factor for the Lancers this playoffs, as the top seed in the west will rely on their 11-1-2 home record to carry momentum from game one. Windsor has prevailed in all three meetings against Guelph this season, but the confidence of the Gryphons from their first round victory and high-scoring offense will prove to be test for the blue and gold.
