The Lancer Men's Volleyball team split a pair of matches this past weekend with the McMaster Marauders and the Laurier Golden Hawks at the St. Denis Centre.

On Friday night, the Lancers lost a tough four-set match to the Marauders before rebounding on Sunday afternoon with a victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks.

Against McMaster, Windsor put up a strong fight before eventually falling 3-1 (12-25, 25-21, 17-25, 23-25) at home on Friday.

In the opening set, the Marauders wasted no time getting points on the board against the Lancers. The visitors used some well set plays and aggressive digs to win the first set 25-12.

Some heated rallies kept the score tight throughout set number two. The Lancers used some big digs to shutdown McMaster's offence. The nail-biting second set ended in an impressive 25-21 victory for the Lancers.

McMaster slowly pulled away from the Lancers with hard hits and forced outs in set three. Lancer Josh Edwards kept Windsor on the board during another fast-paced set that ended 25-17 in favour of the Marauders.

In the fourth and final set, Windsor turned it up for an early lead. Well played rallies kept the score close for the entire game.

Despite some strong play from the Marauders, the Lancers got some solid blocking from Agostino Di Pietro to keep a determined McMaster squad at bay. The Marauders barely squeaked out a 25-23 set win in what was the most heated set of the night.

The Lancers were lead by Justin Kuskoff with 11 kills and 7 digs. Kyle Williamson had 9 kills, while Josh Edwards had 8. Players of the game went to Lancer Josh Edwards and Marauder Jeremy Groenveld.

On Sunday afternoon, Windsor rallied to defeat the visiting Laurier Golden Hawks 3-1 (28-26, 18-25, 25-14, 25-22).

Set one saw a high powered Lancers offence that Laurier's defense struggle to defend.

Laurier began to threaten Windsor's dominance mid-game, as they tightened the gap and eventually sent the set into extra points. Some impressive Lancer blocking won them the opening set 28-26.

Hoping to even the match, Laurier stepped up offensively in the second set. More organized plays allowed the Golden Hawks to compete better on offense and take the set 25-18.

Windsor dominated set three, leading by 10 points for most of the set. Following suit with previous games, Windsor's solid hitting played a key role in their success as they easily won 25-14.

The score was much closer throughout set four as both teams used their speed and power to produce steady points and a frequent tie game. The Lancers eventually went on to win the set and the match with a 25-22 victory.

Harrison Oake had 17 kills for the home team while Justin Kuskoff had 11 kills and Kyle Williamson and Shane Byrne each contributed 10 kills.  Defensively Josh Edwards led Windsor with 8 digs.

Players of the game went to Windsor's Justin Kuskoff and Laurier's Cameron Wheelan.

The Lancers hit the road next weekend as they take on the York Lions on November 7th at 8pm and the Ryerson Rams on Sunday November 8th at 4pm.
