Box Score The Windsor Lancers Men's Hockey team turned in a strong performance in London on Thursday night despite falling 3-2 in overtime to the Western Mustangs.
With the overtime defeat, Windsor moves to 6-7-3 and now sit only a point back with a game in hand of 5th place in the tough OUA West Conference.
On Thursday night, the Lancers took a one-goal lead six minutes into the first period after Brett Oliphant slid a rebound puck past Mustangs goaltender Keyvan Hunt.
Windsor held the lead for the remainder of the first frame after holding off Western's three failed powerplay opportunities.
Midway through the second period, Western's Keaton Turkiewicz made a quick pass to Aaron Snow who buried a shot past Lancer netminder Jim Watt to tie the game at one.
Turkiewicz netted Western's second goal seven minutes later after receiving the puck down low and firing a shot top shelf over Watt's shoulder.
Western held the 2-1 lead until Windsor's Steve Ferry capitalized on a Mustangs mistake and beat Hunt to tie the game at 2-2. Ferry's goal forced the game into overtime.
In extra time, both teams went back and forth with equal scoring opportunities. Mustang forward Geoff Killing eventually broke the tie when he fired a wrist shot over Watt's shoulder to give Western the 3-2 overtime victory.
Jim Watt made 28 saves in goal for the Lancers.
The Lancers will be back in action this Saturday as they travel to Waterloo, Ontario to battle the Waterloo Warriors at Columbia Ice Field.
