Former Lancer Comiskey announces retirement from CFL after 12-year career

Edmonton, AB - After a stellar 12-year pro career, Edmonton Eskimos offensive guard and former Lancer standout Dan Comiskey announced his retirement from the CFL on Thursday.

"I would like to thank the Eskimo organization, my teammates, the fans and the city of Edmonton for embracing me and my family during our time here," said Comiskey.  "I have nothing but fond memories of my entire CFL career, but my time as an Edmonton Eskimo was particularly special.  Once an Eskimo, Always an Eskimo!"

The University of Windsor product was selected in the 5th round of the 1997 CFL Canadian College draft by the Saskatchewan Rough Riders.

Three times during his career he competed for the Grey Cup, winning twice with the Eskimos in 2003 and 2005.  He enjoyed his best season in 2006 when he was named a West Division All-Star for the second time in his career as well as earning his fourth CFLPA All-Star nod. He was also the Eskimos nominee for Most Outstanding Canadian.

“The highest compliment I can pay Dan Comiskey is that he is a winner, not just on the football field, but in all facets of his life," says Eskimo General Manager and Director of Football Operations Danny Maciocia.  "As a player his talent and leadership qualities were second to none. As a person, Dan's charitable efforts and commitment to our community set an example for all of us.  The entire Edmonton Eskimo organization wishes Dan, Raina and their children, Jane, Lauren and Daniel the very best in the years to come."

Last season the Windsor native started eight regular season games after returning from a broken ankle and also started the East Semi-final and East final at left guard.
