The No. 1 ranked Windsor Lancers Women's basketball team opens up their home schedule at the St. Denis Centre on Friday against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues.

The Lancers, who are set to host the CIS National Championship tournament in March, are looking to better their result from last season which saw them win the silver medal. Being ranked first overall for the first time in program history, the Lancers look poised to make a run in front of a hometown crowd.

The Lancers got their season started off on the right foot last weekend, after going a perfect 7-0 in the preseason. They carried over their early success to the first weekend of the regular season rolling over the York Lions 89-49 on Friday and Laurentian Voyagers 80-43 on Saturday.

On Friday, Windsor got 27 points from 2010 OUA Rookie of the Year forward Jessica Clemencon and 16 points from veteran guard Bojana Kovacevic as they cruised to the 40-point victory.

The Lancers continued their strong play on Saturday as the OUA West Division juggernauts spoiled Laurentien's opening weekend. Windsor pulled away in the third quarter and held the Voyageurs to only 17 points in the second half.

In the final quarter, the Lancers sealed the game, scoring 28 of their points in the final ten minutes with Miah-Marie Langlois leading the way with 17 points, while Clemencon registered 15 points.

The Lancers will have their hands full this weekend with the Varsity Blues who are now ranked number nine in the CIS after going 3-0 to start the season.

The Lancers will hope to continue the trend against the Varsity Blues as they have gone 2-0 against them in each of the past two seasons.

Jessica Clemencon will be counted on by the Lancers to dominate the paint and provide a tough interior defence against a talented Varsity Blues attack.

Tip-off is set for 6:00pm at the St. Denis Centre on Friday night. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youth and senior. Season tickets are still available and can be purchased online at www.goLancers.ca or at the door Friday night for only $50.
