The Windsor Lancers Track and Field team is off to the 2010 OUA Provincial Championships this weekend at York University in Toronto.
The No. 2 ranked Lancer men will look to defend their OUA championship title, while the No. 1 ranked Lancer women are looking to regain their spot at the top of the podium after a one year absence.
The defending CIS national champions have had a strong showing thus far this season. With ten athletes and 5 of 6 relays teams, already automatically qualified for the National Championships in Windsor, the Lancers will be looking to add to those numbers with a good showing at York this weekend.
The top ranked Lancer women will look to win their fifth provincial championship in six years and will be led by the 2009 OUA Track MVP Noelle Montcalm, who will compete in the 60m, 300m, 60mH, and 4x200m relay.
The No. 2 Lancer men are looking for an incredible twelfth straight provincial crown but will be pushed hard by the No. 1 Guelph Gryphons and No. 3 Western Mustangs.
Fourth year distance runner Dave Weston is currently ranked first in the 3000m, while fifth year athlete Mike Miller has returned after a year's absence and currently ranks second in the men's shot put.
The Lancer relay teams will also have a huge impact on the track as the Lancer women's 4x200m, 4x400m, and 4x800m teams are ranked first, third and second, respectively. For the men, the Lancers 4x400m team sits atop the rankings, while the 4x200m team sits second and the 4x800m are fifth.
The 2010 OUA Track and Field Championships will start on Friday, February 27th at York University.
Following the provincial championships, the Lancers will return home to defend their dual national titles, and host the CIS National Championship meet for the second straight year. The Nationals will be held on March 11th -13th at the St. Denis Centre.
