Kemmere, Lancers add Manitoba's Adam Thompson for 2010-11

Adam Thompson will join the Lancer Men's Volleyball program in 2010-11.
Huub Kemmere, Head Coach of the Lancer Men's Volleyball program, is pleased to announce the commitment of top recruit Adam Thompson for the 2010-11 season.

Considered to be one of the top local players in Winnipeg, the 6'5” Thompson helped the 204 Volleyball Club's 18U boy's team to an outstanding finish at Canadian national championships.

The Portage la Prairie, Manitoba resident and his team reached the Tier 1 quarter-finals of the 48-team event held earlier in May in Abbotsford, B.C., to put them among the top eight clubs in the country.

At the high school level, Thompson's presence at middle played a key role in the PCI Trojans top-three finish in the West Winnipeg Athletic Conference over the past two seasons.

PCI head coach Bob Kriski is thrilled to see one of his players make the jump to the CIS in the fall.

“This is a great opportunity for Adam to move up and face some new challenges,” said Kriski. “He is a smart player who can read offences and defences, and make adjustments in his game all the time. I couldn't be happier for him.”

The Lancers are equally as excited to have Thompson joining the roster.

“We play a really fast game, so we look for agile middles with quick footwork," said Lancer Assistant Coach Shawn Lippert. "Adam fits that role perfectly for us."

With the Lancers being such a young team, Thompson also felt the University of Windsor was the right choice for him.

“I got a really good vibe from the team and the school,” Thompson said. “I like that they are a young and up and coming team, and I can really picture myself being part of it.”
