Bishop, Lancers light up American Milers Club Meet in Indianapolis

Adjetey-Nelson sets new career mark in the Czech Republic

The Lancer Track and Field program continues to make major headlines throughout the summer with some outstanding performances around the world.

Current Lancer star Melissa Bishop set a new personal best in the 800m as she captured the prestigious American Milers Club High Performance Series race at IUPUI in Indianapolis.

Her blazing time of 2:04.74 was over a half second faster than second place finisher Celia Peters.

Incoming standout transfer Anthony Berkis also had a tremendous showing as he captured the Men's 1500m title in Indianapolis in a very fast time of 3:43.45. 

Lancer veterans Adam Kellar, Dave Weston and Matt Walters finished 9th, 10th and 11th respectively in the race. All four Lancers broke 3:47 for the 1500m as the CIS championships last year was won in 3:49.53.

Both Bishop and Berkis' performances joins Noelle Montcalm's earlier performance which should qualify them for the NACAC (North American, Central American and Caribbean) Track and Field Championships to be held July 9-11 in Miramar, Florida. 

Matt Walters also met the NACAC standard with a time of 3:46.33. The Canadian team (under 23 years of age) will be named on Monday, June 21st. 

Other results in Indianapolis included Mitch Tome capturing the gold in the open Men's 800m in a personal best time of 1:50.91.
Camilo Quevedo also earned a the bronze medal in the 400m Hurdles in a time of 54.05.

Adjetey-Nelson sets new career mark in Czech Republic

Elsewhere, in the Czech Republic, former Lancer track star Jamie Adjetey-Nelson turned in an incredible performance in the men's decathlon as he set a new career best with 8,239 points at the TNT-Fortuna Combined Events Meet in Kladno, Czech.

Jamie's performance ranks as the third best in Canadian history behind only 
Canadian Record Holder Mike Smith and Olympic Bronze medallist Dave Steen. 

Included in star studded field in the Czech Republic was the 2008 Olympic Gold medallist Brian Clay and the world record holder Roman Seberle. 

Incredibly, Adjetey-Nelson's 8,269 point total ranks 9th in the world this year.
