Kemmere, Lancers sweep Laurier in dramatic fashion

Box Score
In head coach Huub Kemmere's final home game of his career, the Lancer men's volleyball team swept the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-18) in a dramatic win on Saturday night.

At the end of the season, Kemmere will retire as the head coach of the program after twenty years with the Lancers. Kemmere was honoured in a pre-game ceremony prior to the first serve on Saturday.

The Lancers also honoured graduating athletes Adam Prieur, Harrison Oake, Will Alexander, Jimmy El-Turk and Andrew Foster.

The first set was close with the Lancers having the slight advantage. Play went back and forth at the end of the set, but the Lancers quickly climbed to game point and finished it with a team block from El-Turk and Prieur.

The second set was opposite of the first, seeing Laurier with the slight lead. Tied up at 17, the Lancers took the lead and held on until Ryan Le finished it with an ace serve, giving the Lancers the 25-20 win. Kyle Williamson had 1.00 pct, going four-for-four in the set.

As the Lancers climbed to their third set victory, their lead steadily increased. A round of five on the line from Williamson put them at 23-17. Several red and yellow cards were issued to the Laurier bench, and their head and assistant coaches were ejected from the game, which put the set at match point for the Lancers.

After giving up one point to Laurier, Prieur set his last pass as at home to Oake, whose kill ended it 25-18.

Harrison Oake had 14 kills, while Ryan Le had 12 kills, 8 digs and Kyle Williamson had 9 kills. Adam Prieur had 36 assists.

The Lancers will close out the regular season next weekend against the Varsity Blues in Toronto.
