Women's Hockey splits weekend road trip

The Lancer women's hockey team split a pair of road games against the Brock Badgers and Guelph Gryphons over the weekend.

Windsor is now 9-7-2 on the year, and in fifth place in the OUA.

On Saturday, the Lancers earned a 6-2 win over Brock.

Windsor opened the scoring just two minutes into the opening period as Kayla Dodson setup Ally Strickland for her third of the season.

At 6:23 of the first, the Lancers would go to work on the powerplay, as Candace Rapchak beat Brock freshman goaltender Chantal Bicket to make it 2-0. Dodson and Courtney Spoors added the assists.

Windsor would take a 3-0 lead at the 11:10 mark of the first as Spoors and Lindsay Hoogstraten setup Candace Kourounis for her fourth of the campaign.

The Lancers would take a three-goal lead into the dressing after 20 minutes, ending Bicket's day. Freshman Emily Kelly would replace Bicket at the start of the second period.

The Badgers cut the lead to two, just 2:19 into the second period as Amber Wilson and Jessica Fickel setup Megan Keane for her seventh of the campaign.

Windsor would regain their three-goal lead at 17:04 as Kiely Barnett and Caitlin Connell setup Candice Chevalier, who buried it past Kelly for her second of the season.

Two minutes into the third period, Keane would be the Badgers lone highlight as she registered her second goal of the day and eighth of the season. Fickel and Leigh Vandeerveen added the assists.

The Lancers would close out the scoring with goals from Bree Polci at 8:42 and Rapchak at 12:02 on the powerplay.

In goal, Windsor starter Karlyle Robinson recorded 30 saves in the victory.

On Sunday, the Lancers struggled against the Gryphons, falling 4-0 to the host team.

Guelph scored midway through the first period to take a one goal lead heading into the second.

The middle frame saw Guelph score a pair of goals, before notching their final marker of the game on the power play late in the third.

Goaltender Julia Ouroumis made 25 saves in net for Windsor.

The Lancers will play their final two road games of a five game stint next weekend as they face the No. 2 Laurier Golden Hawks and Waterloo Warriors next weekend.
