University of Windsor Lancers women's hockey head coach
Deanna Iwanicka has announced that she is stepping down from the program after eight seasons behind the bench for the blue and gold.
During her tenure with the Lancers, Iwanicka led the program through a rebuild and was able to establish a strong foundation of consistent playoff appearances, with the 2025-26 season marking a fifth consecutive year in the playoffs.
The Lancer teams that she recruited post-COVID were developed with a winning culture, as they earned a combined .524 winning percentage since the beginning of the 2021-22 season.
"We want to thank Deanna for her time and commitment to the Lancer women's hockey program," said
Stephanie White, Director of Athletics. "She has played a critical role in growing the Lancer women's hockey program and helping establish it as a respected competitor within the OUA," said White.
Off the ice, Iwanicka also developed a culture that promoted academic success and campus involvement, with the women's hockey team winning the IG Cup in 2021-22 for the Lancer team that best combines athletics, academics, and community involvement. Her 2023-24 team also captured the prestigious Dr. Moriarty Academic Team of the Year award. Under her guidance, the program prioritized the student-athlete experience, graduate success, team results, and contributions to the community.
"While we are sad to see her leave, we are excited for her as she pursues new opportunities and challenges in the future," added White.
The search for a new Lancer women's hockey head coach is underway. Coach Iwanicka will continue to support the transition over the summer until the new coach is announced.
