University of Windsor Lancers women's hockey forward
Elissa Benjamin has signed a one-year contract with IF Björklöven of the NDHL (Nationella Damhockeyligan), the second-highest women's hockey league in Sweden.
In her final year of U SPORTS eligibility, Benjamin set a career-best with 17 points (eight goals, nine assists), ranking third on the Lancers and second among all forwards, while playing in all 26 regular season games. She consistently came up in the clutch, scoring a career-high three game-winning goals. Her six power-play assists led the team as she recorded eight points with the player advantage.
The Nanaimo, B.C. native has been a consistent goal scorer and point producer throughout her time in Windsor. In her regular season career with the blue and gold she played in 112 games, scoring 25 goals and adding 29 assists for 54 points. She also played in seven OUA playoff games, recording an assist.
"Elissa is a player with a very good hockey IQ. She can both [make plays] and make her teammates better, which is something we value highly in our way of playing," said Björklöven sports director Christer Nilsson in the team's release.
