The University of Windsor Track and Field team is set to host to the Team Challenge meet this weekend at the St. Denis Centre.
The No. 1 nationally ranked men's team is coming off of a successful weekend after competing at three separate meets over the weekend.
Long distance star
Anthony Berkis came away with an impressive performance, setting a new Lancer team record posting a time of 4: 02.50 in the men's mile to place fifth at the Meyo Invitational at the University of Notre Dame. Berkis currently sits first in the CIS ranking for the 1000m, first in the 1500m, and third in the 3000m.
Matt Walters heads into the weekend ranked first overall in the men's 3000m, and second overall in the 1500m.
Paul Janikowski is ranked second in the 3000m with a time of 8:13.30.
The Lancer men's will also be led by star sprinter
Aaron Bowman who captured a gold medal in the men's 60m at the Bison Invitational at the University of Manitoba. Bowman is ranked third in the CIS in the event at 6.83.
Branden Wihelm has had impressive performances this season, including a first place finish in the high jump at the Bison Invitational last weekend. Wihelm is ranked first in the event with a height of 2.15m.
Andrew Dandie poses a double threat for a podium finish in both the high jump and long jump. Dandie is ranked second in the long jump and third overall in the high jump.
The Blue & Gold will look to continue their dominance of the relay in 2012. The Lancers currently sit second in the CIS in both the 4x200m, and 4x400m races and will hope to move to the top of the rankings and impress the home town crowd at the St. Denis Centre.
On the women's side, the Lancers moved to the No. 1 spot in the CIS rankings this week.
The Lancer throwers lead the way for the women, as they continue to dominate their events each week.
Celine Freeman-Gibb is currently ranked second in the women's shot put with a distance of 13.93m, while Shaelyn McLaughlin is right behind her in third at 13.82m. In the weight throw,
Ami Schimanski is the new Lancer record holder with a distance of 17.02m, and is currently ranked third in the CIS.
Rookie sprinter Amilia Di Chiara has blown away the field and is currently ranked first in the 60m hurdles in only her first year of competition. Fifth year senior
Nicole Sassine continues to shine in the 300m, ranking third overall at 0:39.80.
The meet kicks off at 12:00pm on Saturday with the gates opening at 11:30am.
