Former Lancer Track and Field star
Melissa Bishop made another move towards realizing her Olympic dream this past weekend as she hit the Olympic B standard for the second time with a first place finish in the women's 800m at the Tempe High Performance Track and Field Meet in Tempe, Arizona on Monday.
After meeting the Olympic B standard time of 2:01.30 for the first time in her career only two weeks ago in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Bishop's winning time of 2:01:24 in Arizona was again just under the B standard set forth by Athletics Canada.
The Egansville, Ontario native now owns the two fastest times in Canada this year and must finish in the top three at next month's nationals to earn a spot on the Olympic team, assuming no one else runs the A standard of 1:59.90.
Bishop is currently ranked No. 10 in the world by the IAAF in the Women's 800 metres.
MELISSA BISHOP - Olympic Qualification process
1) With two Olympic B standards now under her belt, Bishop must finish in the top 3 at the Canadian OIympic Trials to secure a rising star berth to the Canadian Olympic team. (assuming no other Canadian runs an Olympic A standard)
2) If Melissa runs the Olympic A standard of 1:59.90, she will automatically qualify for this summer's Canadian Olympic team.
