Box Score TORONTO-
Austin Kennedy threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns, while
Mitch Dender picked up two majors and 100 yards on the ground, and the Windsor Lancers football team got back in the win column by dominating the Toronto Varsity Blues 55-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Jordan Brescacin picked up 89 receiving yards, and Jamal Darius added 85 rushing yards for the Lancers in the win. Windsor's defense forced three interceptions from the Blues (1-2), and they held the home side to just 115 passing yards, compared to 302 from the Lancers. They also tallied five sacks on the afternoon, including two from
Garrit Post (Waterloo, Ont.).
One week after they were held to just nine points and no touchdowns against Guelph, the Lancers (2-1) were determined to get their offense back on track in their first road game of the year. They did so just six minutes into the contest, as the defense forced an interception, taking over the ball at the Blues 13-yard line. On the second play of the drive, Dender (Amherstburg, Ont.) punched the ball in from three yards out to put the Lancers up 7-0.
After a Toronto field goal cut the lead to four, Kennedy (Windsor, Ont.) and Brescacin (Tecumseh, Ont.) would connect for a monster 57-yard touchdown reception just before the end of the opening quarter, giving the visitors a 14-3 lead.
Evan Pszczonak broke through for an 18-yard TD reception that topped off an 82-yard drive early in the second. The Lancers would go on to add a
Dan Cerino (Stoney Creek, Ont.) field goal before orchestrating another long drive late in the half.
Gilbert Stewart (Brampton, Ont.) used a 1-yard TD run to end a 75-yard drive with their final major before halftime. Windsor went into the locker room with a 31-4 advantage.
Stewart added another rushing TD to open the second half, and defensive back
Marcus St. Aubin got in on the scoring action, picking off Varsity Blues quarterback Richard Quittenton and taking the ball 20 yards in for the major. Dender connected on his second rushing TD of the contest early in the fourth quarter, while Cerino finished the game with two field goals.
The Lancers will continue their road trip next weekend in London, Ont., where they will take on the Western Mustangs (2-1) who suffered their first loss of the year against Queen's on Saturday. Windsor is back on Alumni Field the following weekend, hosting the York Lions on September 29 at 7:00 p.m.
