Box Score The Lancer men's volleyball team opened the 2014-15 season with a 3-0 (18-25, 21-25, 21-25) loss to the OUA champion McMaster Marauders on Saturday night in Hamilton.
Rookie
Jake MacNeil was exceptional in shortened duty for the Lancers, coming off the bench in the second set to lead his team with 9 kills and 10.5 total points.
The first set started out close and the McMaster Marauders called a time out with the game knotted at ten. The time out proved to be what the Marauders needed and went on a 7-0 run from there en route to a 25-18 set win over the Lancers.
Windsor was aided greatly by the insertion of MacNeil, who was a terror on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Windsor held their own throughout the set and made a late push at the end, but a mid-set scoring run from the Marauders pushed them ahead of the Lancers.
A number of hitters who had been dormant for the Lancers in the second reappeared in the third, as
Gabriel Burlacu and middle
Adam Thompson saw more of the ball from setter
Andrew Chelladurai. Errors crept up for the Marauders, but they were the cleaner of the two sides in the set, and saw out the sweep as a result.
Windsor will travel to Kingston next weekend for a pair of games against Queen's and RMC before returning home for their home opener on Halloween when they host the Guelph Gryphons at 8:00pm at the St. Denis Centre.
