The Windsor Lancers are pleased to announce that three members of the Lancer football program have been recognized by Ontario University Athletics for their tremendous play this season.
Â
Linebacker Dan Metcalfe and offensive lineman
Drew Desjarlais were named to the OUA's second all-star team, while rookie
Cole Verlinde was named to the all-rookie team.
Â
In his third season with the Lancers, Metcalfe led the team in tackles with 60 (47 solo, 26 assisted) to place him third overall in the OUA. The Kingsville, ON native was a member of the OUA all-rookie team in 2016.
Â
"It is great to see Dan finally get the recognition he deserves," said Lancer football head coach
Joe D'Amore. "He has been a top players in this league for the last few years and coaches are starting to see how talented he is. I expect him to be an all-Canadian by the time his career is done."
Â
Coach D'Amore was equally as happy for Desjarlais, who only played three games this season due to injury."Making the second-team is a testament to just how good Drew is," D'Amore commented. "Despite only playing half a season Drew was a dominate force out there on the field. When you put on the film it was tough to find a better o-lineman in the second half of the season."
Â
In his first season, Verlinde finished the season with 15.5 tackles (13 solo, 5 assisted) to place in the team's top ten defensively.
Â
"We were very pleased with Cole this year," said D'Amore. "He came in ready to play and was a big part of our improvement on defense. We are excited about his future with us."
Â
Congratulations Lancers on your achievement!
