The Department of Athletics and Recreational Services would like to honour the hard work and dedication of the Lancers student staff.
Â
Traditionally, our students are recognized at the Blue & Gold Student Appreciation Luncheon which highlights all the areas within the department including the St. Denis Centre, Lancer Recreation, aquatics, student managers and therapists, and the Lancer home event staff.
Â
However, during these unique and challenging times, we did not want to miss the opportunity to thank our amazing student staff for their tremendous work throughout the 2019-20 season and take the opportunity to announce the winners of the student staff awards!
Â
Rick Mallat ARS Student Employee of the Year – Kevin Wilson
Â
Kevin has been an invaluable part of the Lancer Rec team this year. He has gone above and beyond in his role as Intramural Supervisor to bring unique ideas to the department, ensure participants are safe, and having fun. His passion for recreation has also inspired him to conduct research in intramurals which will be used to positively affect the program. Whenever opportunities arise to volunteer outside of his intramural role, Kevin is the first to want to get involved and lend a helping hand. As a student employee, he has taken on other responsibilities such as being a challenge course instructor and assisting in staff trainings.
Â
Now in his last year of his Masters of Sports Management degree, his expertise has also helped in the classroom as the PTA of Volleyball Graduate Teaching Assistant. While balancing all these duties, Kevin has made the time to host a radio show with CJAM, called "The Round Table". This show is dedicated to be the voice of Lancer athletes and other relevant issues that affect students and student athletes. His contribution to Lancer Recreation and the profession exceeded the boundaries of our institution as Kevin was also recognized with the highest student leadership award from the National Intramural Recreation Sport Association, the "William Wassan Student Leadership Award" this year.
Â
