Lancers mourn the loss of founding athletic director Dr. Frank DeMarco

It is with heavy hearts that the Lancer family mourns the loss of our founding athletic director Dr. Frank DeMarco. Dr. DeMarco passed away over the Victoria Day long weekend at the incredible age of 102.

In addition to being the Lancers first director of athletics, Dr. DeMarco was a key integral founder to the University of Windsor in its early stages of its institutional inception.

One of the blue & gold's most prestigious awards, the DeMarco Award, is named in his honour
Dr. DeMarco. The award is presented annually to both a Windsor Lancer male and female athlete that best combines athletic and academic excellence.

Dr. DeMarco was also inducted into the University of Windsor Alumni Sports Hall of Fame in 1989, and the Windsor-Essex Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.

Two of his grandchildren, Laura and Thomas DeMarco, continued the family legacy with the blue and gold, recently graduating from the University of Windsor while also competing on Lancer golf team. Thomas claimed the OUA individual gold medal in 2021, while Laura brought home the individual bronze medal that same year.

When asked in an interview honouring his 100th birthday in 2021 about how impactful the University of Windsor and the Lancers been on his life, Dr. DeMarco knew exactly what to say right away.

"I love the U!" He jubilantly stated. "I miss my time there. Go Lancers!"
